It is getting better with updates, however troubleshooting problems has wasted a fair bit of my time. I run Ubuntu 18.04 on it and apart from having to fix one setting in the BIOS for the installer to recognize the disk it installed with zero problems. In other programs there is nothing I can do to see anything without a magnifying glass. I have been using Dell’s since I started using computers My Mac Air has been a good machine for basic work but it was never built for speed or graphics, and most games or graphic intensive apps will either crawl or not run at all.on the side or the even more puzzling button to press to see a row of analog leds showing battery life.you probably don’t need the extra horsepower that this baby has under the hood. But if you want high specs with a small form factor, then this may be the laptop for you. I prefer a larger convertible or 2-in-1 laptop for that. A tablet fits better when the seat in front of you reclines. Screen on this is outstanding. Speed is good. And it’s nice to look at. I run rather large Excel spreadsheets with big calculations and this machine handles the spreadsheets nicely. I end up having to reset the wireless adapter each time, even after updating the driver. As much as I love it in most ways, this one flaw is a huge pain.
i got the one with Intel i-7, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD will update the review post a few weeks to give an accurate picture of laptop performance in terms of screen, battery, overall performance and other aspects.Coudn’t make the digital sensor work, but doing fine with windows hello. The speed of the laptop is what will be the most pleasant surprise as it is equipped with Intel’s latest I7 chip and when coupled with a solid state hard drive it will out perform anything in your household that is more than six months old.that is contained within the tiny confines of this machine it does run red hot and this may shorten the life of the laptop itself. Only time will tell.I however like my XPS and I believe it is the best Windows laptop for 2018.No decrease in function. I am nervous about this sound, though. I am worried that it signals some future breakage. I’ve been strictly Thinkpad, then HP after Lenovo let the quality of the laptops drop.it just did NOT want to unwrap). The power brick on this is adorably small, I’ve included a photo of it.
I almost never plug anything into USB, and my newest 500GB external SSD is a USB C device anyway, so the very rare times I need USB A the Spectre never cranked fans this high for so little activity it’s noticeable after even the thin bezels on the HP Spectre. There’s also a lot of complaining about the location of the cameras on the front of the screenabsolutely no drop, unlike the Lenovo systems I’ve used in the recent past. This is nothing at all like the smooth 4k on the HP for quite a bit less money. But I didn’t buy this to watch movies on, I bought it to have a portable computer since I do lug this everywhere i go, every day.many of the problems faced by the developer edition with Ubuntu were faced with other linux based OS’s and even Windows. At that point I installed TLP to use a power savings mode when on battery which helped a little. I was assured I would still get decent battery life and was given a discount. Turns out the battery life claims were basically fraudulent.
